Get Started with Online Supervision in Texas
Read through this page carefully to understand how to get started with LPC supervision. The process is pretty simple. I’ve done what I can to make it as easy as possible for you. I know that you have worked so hard to graduate, pass the licensing exam, and find a qualified LPC Supervisor.
Take a deep breath, and let’s begin.
Schedule a Free 30-Minute Zoom Call
The very first step is for us to schedule a time to chat about your goals for supervision and to each determine if we are a great fit to work together. All you have to do is scroll to the bottom of this page or click the Schedule a Call button. Pick two times/days that work for you. Once I receive the request, I’ll pick one of the two times, and you’ll get a confirmation email with a Zoom link.
There’s no need to go back and forth via email or play phone tag. One thing you’ll learn about me pretty quickly is that I am a nut for systems. I’ve got intake systems, note-taking systems, even systems to keep track of my systems. The more we can automate our private practice, the more time we have for other things.
During Our First Call
Think of this first call as an interview of sorts. I have a list of questions that I ask every prospective associate that help me determine if I’m the right supervisor for you. Finding an LPC Supervisor isn’t easy, and it’s one of the most important decisions you’ll make as an associate. I don’t want either of us to rush into a supervisory relationship without feeling pretty good about our work together.
I ask that you also come prepared with your own set of questions. Transparency is vital to providing great supervision, so I will do my best to answer any and all questions you might have. Don’t worry; this won’t be your only opportunity to ask questions if we decide to work together or even before. You can always email or call me afterward if there’s something that comes to mind.
If the two of us agree that we’d like to work together, we will schedule an initial supervisory session.
Prior to Your Initial Supervisory Session
Before we meet for supervision the first time, we will both fill out the necessary paperwork and send it into the Board. For new LPC Associates, this will include the Supervisory Agreement Form. For LPC Associates who are adding or changing supervisors to work with me, we’ll also fill out the Supervisor Change Request Form.
I’ll also send you a brief questionnaire to fill out in order to get a sense of what you perceive are your strengths and areas for growth. This will give me an idea of what to focus on when starting supervision.
During Your Initial Supervisory Session
When we officially meet for the first time we will review the questionnaire you filled out as well as discuss your goals for supervision. We will use this information to craft your Supervision Contract. In it, we will specify my expectations for you as well as yours of me.
The Supervisory Contract is similar to an Informed Consent for therapy. It outlines what is required for each party as well as the frequency we will meet and how you will pay for supervision. We’ll also include the goals you have for supervision and how we will attempt to help you reach those goals as well as measure your success therein.
We will review your goals from time to time to ensure you’re on track. This will typically take place quarterly but can be done more frequently should you desire. If your goals change or develop over the course of supervision, we can amend the contract to reflect your new aspirations.
After Your Initial Supervisory Session
I’ll be available to help walk you through the steps of starting a private practice. This includes sending you the necessary paperwork to get started with clients- informed consent, practice policies, associate acknowledgement, etc. We will hit the ground running so that you can grow your new private practice.
If you have chosen to have me create a great therapy website for you, we will also get rolling on this as well. This includes sending you templates to fill out that will help accelerate the creation of your practice website.
We will continue to meet each week, either individually or in a group, until you have accrued your 3,000 hours. It may sound like a lot, but it will fly by, especially because you’ll already be doing what you want- growing a thriving private practice!
